Editorial: New publications by COTRI

New publications by COTRI

50 years of editorship

by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt FRGS FRAS

Dear Readers,

we are proud to announce the start of a number of new electronic publications by COTRI. This is also for your humble editor a happy occasion. My grandfather spent his life as a printer. In Nazi times he struggled to keep his small company alive as he lost all official jobs because he refused to divorce his – in Nazi terms – „half-Jewish“ wife, my grandmother. After the Nazis were defeated 75 years ago, he got a new position and spend the rest of his working life printing Deutsche Mark bills in the government-owned Bundesdruckerei, just a few meters from where his own printing shop used to be.

I did not become a printer, but it may be not a surprise that I started 50 years ago my „career“ as an editor and publisher, when I was chosen as the editor-in-chief of the independent pupils’ magazine of my junior high school at the age of 13.

In recent months, the CoViD-19 virus provided us with a bit of – rather unwanted – spare time to edit an eBook featuring the 100 best editorials of the publication COTRI WEEKLY you are just reading. The selected 100 COTRI WEEKLY editorials from the period September 2017 to December 2019 reflect the development of China’s outbound tourism in a kaleidoscope of big and small changes. An introduction looks back at the last few years but also at the post-virus future. An index is provided at the end of the book featuring all geographical and personal names mentioned for easy reference.

The COTRI WEEKLY eBook is not the only publication we are offering for your entertainment and empowerment. The online CTT China Tourism Training, which provides in five tracks detailed information and a university certification for successful participants will be supplemented starting this month by a CTT Update CoViD-19, which provides participants of the CTT online trainings and the CTT Alumni Network with updated information about the development of China’s outbound tourism in terms of the Corona virus. Changes in the demand and expectations of Chinese outbound travellers for future trips are discussed in details based on the detailed information, given in the CTT online trainings.

All surveys show that the Chinese travellers will start to go on the road again as soon as it starts to be possible and to be perceived as safe. Looking back at the last few years with the COTRI WEEKLY eBook and preparing for the new Chinese visitors expected to arrive in the second half of the year with the help of the CTT China Tourism Training including the CTT Update CoViD-19 should empower the industry to get back to profiting from the Chinese market.

If these publications, of which I have the honour to be the editor, can help you that way, it will certainly be a gratifying way to celebrate my 50 years of editing.

Stay as healthy and as happy as possible, says Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt and the COTRI WEEKLY team.

PS.: More publications are in the pipeline. Stay tuned.
