As part of the activities of the Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council (GTTRC), the first Asian Resilience Summit will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal at the end of May 2019. COTRI’s director Prof. Dr. Arlt has been invited by the organisers to provide some insights, especially with regard to the Chinese outbound market, during the event.

The GTTRC was created in 2016 and provides a platform for professionals from various industries to share information and best practices regarding resilience, crises, and disasters – both man-made and natural – in the context of tourism. In February 2019, the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Center (GTRCM) was opened in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The GTRCM is a first-of-its-kind tourism resource dedicated to policy-relevant research and analysis on destination preparedness, management and recovery from disruptions or crises that impact tourism and threaten economies and livelihoods globally. It is located in the University of West Indies, Monda Campus. Among the universities supporting the GTRCM is also the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a partner of COTRI for the CTT China Tourism Training programme.

The Asian Resilience Summit is co-hosted by the Nepal Tourism Board and will include presentations and panel discussions with a number of high-ranking tourism experts, including Dr. Taleb Rifai, former Secretary General of UNWTO and Co-Chairman of the GTRCM, the Jamaica Minister of Tourism, H.E. Edmund Bartlett, the CEO of PATA, Dr. Mario Hardy, Mr. Xu Jing, Regional Director UNWTO, Mr. Tom Jenkins, CEO of ETOA, Mrs. Sarah Mathews, former Chairperson of PATA, and many regional experts from Nepal and India, led by the host Mr. Deepak Joshi, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board.

Attendance is free of charge, but requires prior registration. Details about the event can be found at: https://www.resiliencecouncil.com/resiliencecouncil/en/page/nepal-summit-agenda.

See you in Kathmandu!
