COTRI analysis and statistics quoted in German national newspaper Welt Online

Statistics, graphs and analysis from COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research Institute have been included in an article of one of Germany’s major national newspapers Welt Online entitled ‘How Sweden alienates the Chinese’ (‘Wie Schweden es sich mit den Chinesen verscherzt‘).

Based on an incident in September 2018, when Chinese social media criticised Sweden for alleged maltreatment of some Chinese visitors, the article showed the danger of damaging a destinations brand image through a single event. COTRI’s director Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt is quoted extensively and data and graphs from COTRI ANALYTICS are used throughout the article.

The article ends with a quote of Prof. Arlt: “Chinese tourists always consider themselves as ambassadors of China. What happens to them, for better or for worse, is always seen first of all as done to a Chinese person.’’
