Statistics from COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research’s COTRI Analytics database have been included in an article from the Associated Press entitled ‘Economic chill dulls Chinese appetite for some luxury brands’. The piece has been republished in a wide range of well-known publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNBC, ABC News and Fox Business.
Building upon a number of recent headlines attributing a drop-off in sales among a number of design brands on decreasing numbers of Chinese tourists to the United States in particular, the article discusses shifting trends in expenditure among outbound travellers from China, as well as the impact of increased domestic spending on luxury goods.
Supporting its analysis with data, the article quotes COTRI Analytics to say: “Chinese tourist arrivals in the United States fell 20 percent from a year earlier to 880,000 in the three months ending in September, according to an estimate by the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute in Hamburg, Germany. The number going to France rose 20.7 percent to 664,800 and those bound for Italy rose 18.9 percent to 850,000.”
