Background:
In the digital world, WeChat has now reached 938 million active users and is launching several new initiatives, such as; WeChat mini programmes, and improved search functionality. Also, new content distribution giants are now competing with Chinese search engines and there has been a shift from mainstream video platforms to short video and live streaming apps.
In the travel world, the overall number of tourist arrivals to popular destinations might be dropping due to a crackdown on low costs group tours, although FIT numbers are up. In Australia, this has meant more Chinese tourist travelling to remote locations like the Outback. Furthermore, wealthy travellers are now looking for personalised and adventure tours.
