New Forbes Blog Posted by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt: “Chinese Tourists Choose New Zealand Over Europe Amidst Terror Concerns”

COTRI Director Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt has published a new article on his Forbes blog entitled: “Chinese Tourists Choose New Zealand Over Europe Amidst Terror Concerns”.

Following a difficult year in Europe, which has seen a number of high profile terror attacks in places such as Paris and Brussels, destinations across the continent are seeing reduced tourist numbers. This has been particularly the case among typically security-conscious Chinese outbound travellers, who have instead sought out “safe bet” countries they feel are further removed from major global events.

New Zealand is one such destination that has benefitted from this developing trend and has seen arrivals from China establish themselves as the country’s second-largest source market after Australia, which in turn has seen the Chinese overtake New Zealanders as its largest group of international arrivals for the first time in the first half of 2016.

Prof. Arlt goes on to explain that, while destinations such as New Zealand have done a great deal to market themselves to Chinese tourists, it is now time for them to move forward and focus more on product adaption in order to truly capitalise on this high-spending market segment and encourage them to stay longer and hopefully return in the future.

Prof. Dr. Arlt’s article: “Chinese Tourists Choose New Zealand Over Europe Amidst Terror Concerns” can be read on his blog at Forbes.com. Please visit this link to read further blogs published by Prof. Dr. Arlt and to subscribe for further updates.
