Representatives of China’s National Tourism Administration and India’s minister of tourism and culture took the opportunity during the China International Travel Mart in Kunming to announce bilateral efforts to build stronger partnerships within tourism development, with the ambition to encourage tourism flows between the two countries. The partnership and new joint ambitions were announced as part of the China-India Tourism Forum, which emphasised the role of the tourism industry in contributing to the job creation and economic development.
As part of the partnership, it was jointly unveiled that the year of 2015 and 2016 have been designated “Visit India Year” and “Visit China Year” respectively, with the hope that the celebration of these two events will encourage people of each country to learn more about what the other country has to offer in terms of tourist attractions and sights.
India’s minister of tourism and culture, Mahesh Sharma, said “We have seen some early positive trends after introducing the electronic visa-on-arrival facility to Chinese tourists in July 2015.“, and said that he is hopeful that the partnership will result in even more interest from Chinese tourists. Indian inbound tourism stakeholders are also interested in attracting more Chinese tourists to India, with some betting on partnerships with Chinese cities to promote mutual types tourist offerings, for example golf tourism between an Indian city and a Chinese counterpart both with well-regarded gold courses.
