Tonga, the 177-island archipelago in the Pacific is benefiting from the boom of Chinese tourism.

Li Jinzao, head of the China National Tourism organization, attended the King Tupou VI coronation last month as special envoy of President Xi Jinping.

During the visit, the CNTA signed a memorandum with the Tonga tourism authority, which drafted plans for data and information exchange, marketing, industry cooperation, training and cooperation under the framework of international organisations.

This move has led to many Chinese service providers visiting Tonga to find ways to expand their businesses. ‘Tonga has many tourism resources, a great potential and they welcome Chinese tourists’ .
