With international medical tourism being an increasingly strong growth market in Berlin, the city’s official destination marketing organisation VisitBerlin is specifically targeting potential Chinese customers.
As part of their new concentrated effort to reach the Chinese market, VisitBerlin launched the Berlin Health Excellence website in March 2017, providing a Chinese-language version shortly after in April 2017. The website provides information on medical facilities in Berlin such as details on hospitals, doctors and their specialisations, as well as maps informing users where they can find their closest pharmacy in the city.
With the German capital having drawn 21,000 medical tourists in 2016 from Russia and the Middle East, the new emphasis on China is expected to provide a large boost to the sector, with VisitBerlin’s director market management Asia, Australia and the Middle East, Ralf Ostendorf revealing: “This year, by entering the Chinese market, we expect a big growth”.
